The Siege of Petersburg, the Longest Military Event of the Civil War. It was here General Ulysses S. Grant cut off all of Petersburg’s supply lines ensuring the fall of Richmond on April 3, 1865. The Appomattox Plantation at City Point served as Grants Headquarters located at the junction of the James and Appomattox Rivers. Six days later General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House.
